On Automatic Pilot

9/6/2018

Sometimes I feel as though we all go through life on automatic pilot.  It may only be for short periods... or maybe it is for a long time.  Most of the time we are just trying to hold the fort down and maintain.  Sometimes it's hard to define or know when we are in that particular situation.  Do we ever really see anything or stop to look at something twice even?  We live in a fast world and time is limited.  Once in a while we should force ourselves to watch the paint dry, so to speak.  It's during that moment that your existence really surprises you.  It's only then that you see something that was nearly impossible to see at first glance.

Have you ever really looked at a tractor tire?  Probably not, who the hell would haha.  Sure it has cool knobs and lugs and looks pretty badass.  Have you ever gotten close enough to stop and look at the detail, the textures, the patina of a weathered (or new) tire.  It is simply amazing... a whole little microcosm of detail and activity.  So many stories lay hidden within that cracked rubber tire.  Years of hard work and utility on a farm or elsewhere.  Who would have thought all that could be on the surface of a simple, common tire?

By the way, if you didn't already know ;) ... I love Jeeps, mud tires, trail riding, and rock crawling.  So why wouldn't I gravitate towards tractors and tractor tires.  Thanks for reading!

I love going to fairs in New England.  Many of them happen during the late summer and autumn just as the seasons are changing and the fall foliage is starting to burst with color.  One of my annual favorites is the Woodstock Fair in Connecticut.  I  thoroughly enjoy looking at all the vintage tractors they have on display.

There is nothing quite like a fair... the candy apples, cotton candy, midway rides, Ferris wheel, and the farm animals.  The sights, the sounds, the smells of a carnival or fair... so unique and transcending.  It's a chance to take it all in and enjoy your surroundings... have a little fun in the process.

The antique tractors always captivate my interest... so much patina and so much color.  The level of detail you can get is amazing while photographing old tractors.

This Massey Harris Mustang tractor was no exception.  This tractor had been beautifully restored and painted.  Great care and detail were taken by its owner to bring this old workhorse back to life.  This antique Mustang tractor was number 200 of 2,680 Massey-Harris Mustangs built in 1953.  I thought the grille looked so awesome through my wider-angle lens.  It looks like a skeleton or a human rib cage that that juts out to protect the inner organs and workings of this classic tractor.

Below are just a few of my latest photography creations:
A summertime, infrared landscape showing the beautiful nature surrounding Saint Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts. Infrared photography can make trees look snowy in the middle of the summer. The cloud wisps reach into the sky and beyond; heavenly light shines down on the earth. Infrared photography, landscape prints, black and white canvas prints.
The Stowe Community Church in Stowe, Vermont. This church surrounded by a lush and green, summer foliage and rustic mountains. The church is one of the most famous churches in Vermont and New England for that matter. In the distance, you can see parts of Main Street and Maple Street in Stowe. The Stowe town common is a quaint and charming little spot, a quite little slice of heaven. Town of Stowe is well know for its display of fall foliage colors during the autumn season. This Vermont landscape photograph shows how lush Stowe & Vermont can be during the summer.
A colorful collection of kayaks and canoes resting in a Cape Cod salt marsh overlooking the scenic Salt Pond Bay in Eastham, Massachusetts New England. These brightly-colored boats give hope and dreams of adventure on a cloudy summer day.

Description

A turquoise and white boat mooring rests on a Cape Cod Bay sandbar during low tide on a summer evening. In this black and white seascape print, I used selective coloring to emphasize the colors on the buoy. A mooring chain and boat rope keep this buoy anchored as a lifeline for a sailboat. This photograph was taken in Brewster, Massachusetts MA Cape Cod New England.
A vast, summer landscape that encompasses Stow Mountain Resort, Mount Mansfield, and Mt. Mansfield State Park in Stowe, Vermont - New England. To the left, light rays stream down through the clouds in the distance.
